WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN COLLEGES THAT AWARD $20,000 IN FREE MONEY OR JUST THE ONES THAT AWARD $5,000?
QUIZ: What comes first, "admission" or "financial aid?"
If you're like 99% of respondents, you answered "admission" since, how can a college offer aid to someone it has not admitted? Good thinking, logical.
And wrong. Remember, this is not a logic-based process; this is a money-based process.
How do we know? The chart below was obtained from the Enrollment Management firm paid for by a private college in Oregon. Enrollment management firms help colleges get the students the Trustees and faculty want on-campus, AT THE LEAST COST. So when your high school had the nice Financial Aid Officer in for "Financial Aid Night," just remember - saving parents money has NOTHING to do with her job.
This particular college's enrollment managers use the flow-chart below to demonstrate how they help the colleges get the students for the least cost. (By the way, almost ALL colleges use enrollment managers. Because college is big business.)
Please look at the data encircled in red, above. What this line means is that, AT THIS COLLEGE, if an "excellent" student (relative to all students AT THIS COLLEGE) presents herself for admission, and is of moderate financial means, the award offer goes from the $3,000-$6,00 range to $20,000! Our expertise comes in finding the colleges where your student rates a "5" in "quality" ("quality" is an enrollment manager's term, not ours).
By mid-senior year, we cannot adjust the student's resume much. But we CAN adjust the students' selection of colleges to which she applies! Would you like to have know - instead of the "2 stretch, two moderate and two safeties" approach to applications - that there was a college out there that would have given their daughter $20,000 instead of $5,000? Would you to get help applying strategically instead of haphazardly? What if, in addition to maximizing your family's chances for receiving large discounts, we helped maximize your student's chances at being happy and successful at the "right" college? WE do that too.
This is one of the very important components of Student Positioning: We have the databases and we have the time to maximize the student's chances for getting serious money from the right colleges. Guidance simply does not have time to get this granular in their college analytics and assistance. Contact us so we can help you.
Don't believe us? Read this. Now that you are among the sage college cynics and smart college shoppers, go here for a look at a screenshot from one of our databases.
WOW! Lots of "money-stuff" happens before a student is offered admission!
